We are Portrait Artists. We strive to create images that take your breath away and make your heart skip a beat, knowing those moments are captured forever. These images should remind you every day of the bond you have created with those you love so deeply. They will become an heirloom piece your family will treasure for generations. Our portraits are hand printed by the photographic artist using archival materials to reflect the uniqueness of each portrait and to ensure a lasting family legacy.
Start with the End in Mind
Before any images are created, we need a plan for how they will be displayed in your home. Creating a plan results in a session that makes art for your home that you will enjoy today and tomorrow. The entire portrait process takes place in several different meetings with us, the Pre-Session Consultation, the Photography Session, the Presentation & Ordering Appointment and Delivery of your portrait art. Let us show you how the Wehmeier Portraits Experience works.
The Pre-Session Consultation
What are the results we are photographing for and how will we plan it? From what to wear, to how and where images will be displayed, session type to products and pricing, the Pre-Session Consultation answers ALL your questions and helps us get to know your family. Your session is NOT happenstance. It is carefully planned and designed. Helping you discover your family’s “why” is crucial for us to turn a photograph into a family treasure. Great portraits begin with a great relationship and understanding. The Pre-Session Consultation can take place in-person or over the phone.
The Portrait Session
We offer several session options to create the perfect photographic art that is handcrafted for your home. The creative fee formally books your portrait appointment and covers the pre-session consultation, the portrait session, post-session processing & preparation of your images and a private viewing and ordering appointment at our studio. It does not include prints or products.
We understand sessions can be stressful for families. From wondering how the kids will behave, to agonizing over what to wear and convincing dad that it won’t be “that bad.” A session with Wehmeier Portraits is anything but stressful. By starting with proper planning, solid goals and an understanding of the entire process, you’ll feel confident and ready for your session.
Sessions take place in our residential studio in Orland Park, at a nearby scenic location or a location special to you. We work with controlled and natural lighting, as appropriate. Props are always minimal and background selections are classic to keep your family, their personality, and the relationships we record as the focal point of the imagery. The studio offers a relaxed environment where we create a look that is sophisticated and enduring. Together, we focus the portrait experience by choosing a single session type:
Fine Art Black & White – An artistic expression of handcrafted and compelling black and white portraits that tells your story and touches the heart.
Signature Color Portraits – Handcrafted portrait art for your home that leaves a legacy for your family.
Baby’s First Year – Illustrate your bond as new parents with your baby and explore the progression of your child’s individuality, through their first year.
Milestones – Embracing the ever-changing stages of childhood and young adulthood.
The Ordering Appointment
The Presentation & Ordering Appointment is the time to reflect back to the Consultation and where your portrait art will be displayed in the home. You will view your images in a beautiful, projected slideshow set to music. Using insight from the Consultation we will present Artist Suggestions. These are our recommendations for your new wall art. With the aid of technology, we will help you visualize the recommendations on your walls through the use of RoomView. During this appointment we craft and finalize your portrait order, so it is important to pick a time where all the decision makers are able to attend.
Delivery & Installation
Your art piece(s) will be ready for pick up in about 3-4 weeks once your order is placed. We’ll call to let you know it’s here and make arrangements for you to take home the final result. And if you need help with installation, we are here to help. Once your portraits are hanging, you can sit back and enjoy them EVERY DAY.
A Long Term Plan
Our families often come to us year after year. As your children grow and the family changes, the time will come to update and refresh your portraits. Whether you first come to us with a newborn or grown children, we’ll create art that coordinates with past sessions so you can build on to what we’ve already created for you in a way that works and continues to delight you year after year.
